Wales & the Metaverse

Event Overview
Virtual Reality is changing how we view and understand the world around us. It can be used to create collaborative learning experiences and environments which allow users to encounter places and people they might otherwise be unable to access due to financial, geographical or opportunity constraints.
As part of Jesus College's celebration of Welsh Month, join us to discover how Virtual Reality (VR) is helping to increase access to and from Wales.
In the first half, Visit Wales will be sharing their latest VR experiences, including a 'live dragon'. This is followed by an exploration of the past, present and future of university outreach.
During the pandemic, Jesus College's access and outreach team were, of course, unable to visit any schools in Wales. To ensure the best and brightest were being encouraged and equipped to apply to top unis like Oxford, the team switched its focus to online outreach. Since then, the College Acess YouTube channel has become the largest of any Oxford or Cambridge College, and the team has experimented with VR footage, podcasts, TikToks and the metaverse. In this short talk, they will set out what could be the future of digital outreach; you can try out their VR videos; and they hope to learn from you what they could do next!
One-hour of talks followed by a traditional Welsh tea.
